Dear Families:

Greetings and welcome to the Federal Hocking Middle/High School web page. Here you should find the forms, calendar dates, faculty email, and other important information you will need for the 2016 - 17 school year.  The staff and faculty are very excited about the upcoming school year and we hope you are as well.

We take great pride in what we’ve established at Federal Hocking. We continue to be a progressive school that not only prepares your child for life after high school both in academics and civic affairs, but also provides a safe, flexible, child-centered learning environment where young people can flourish in many different ways.  For more information, please check our district web site.  Under the ‘Quick Links’ tab, scroll down to view our Operating Principles. These principles were the result of collaboration of all faculty and staff members district-wide and they guide us in all decisions we make about our school and our children.

We are also very proud of our 2016 Lancer graduates.  While we were sad to see them leave us, we are happy knowing that they left more than prepared for whatever lies ahead.  In fact, over 75% of our graduates are heading to college and other post-secondary schools and taking with them over $239,000 in scholarship money to help in these efforts.

The start of the new school year also brings many changes.  We have four new teachers joining our faculty this year. All four did their professional internships at Federal Hocking and three of them were part of the CARE partnership with Ohio University and have intimate knowledge our philosophy and Operating Principles.  They are Mr. Kirby Seeger, Mrs. Toni Seeger, and Ms. Tessa Molina.  Kirby steps in as the new Asst. Principal/Asst. Athletic Director.  His wife, Toni, will be teaching 8th grade Language Arts and Tessa will also be in the middle school teaching 7th grade math.  In addition to teaching, Toni and Tessa will be cheerleading advisors for both the middle and high school.  Mr. Austin Carr will be joining the middle school staff after student teaching here last fall and teaching at Coolville Elementary during the spring.  He will be one of our middle school intervention specialists and is also coaching football and baseball at the high school.

We are also proud to announce that district resident, Fed Hock parent and alum Becky Mansfield is the newest addition to our kitchen.  She brings not only a vast knowledge of the culinary arts but also of the students and families in our district.  We are excited that she is joining our family.

In addition to staffing, we have also seen improvements in providing students with access to technology.  Thanks to the school board and their commitment to funding technology, we have added over 300 Chromebooks as educational resources.  Students in grades 9 – 12 will have their own Chromebook to use for class and for the senior projects.  We’ve also added an additional two new mobile carts with 26 Chromebooks each (104 total) for use in the middle school.  In order to accommodate the internet usage, the wireless infrastructure and routers were upgraded as well.  For support, the district has hired a new Tech Coordinator, Damien Bawn, to assist teachers and students in utilizing these new technological opportunities, not only at the hs/ms, but also both elementary schools.

And now more than ever, there are multiple ways to receive information from our school and district.  In our continued commitment to communicate in a timely fashion with families and community members, we utilize: a district website (www.fedhock.com), a ms/hs website (www.fhlancers.com), a Federal Hocking Facebook page, a quarterly district newsletter, and a hs/ms newsletter that comes with each 6 weeks report card. It’s also possible to sign up to receive text messages from the district regarding important bus and athletic information, just select ‘Text Notifications’ under the Quick Links Tab on the District Home Page.  You can also receive texts and/or email communications from me; text @federalhoc to 81010 in order to sign up.  And please don’t hesitate to call the school at 740-662-6691 to speak with me or any teacher or staff member directly.

I am truly excited about the upcoming school year and look forward to working with you and your children.

Sincerely,

Cliff Bonner

Principal, Federal Hocking High/Middle School
